RS 60 or RS 80 Racks...What's the difference?

RS 60 or RS 80 Racks...What's the difference?

2003-08-31 by zapaxe

I have the RS 60 original DTXpress rack. But was wondering what the
difference is between the RS 80?

Mainly I want to know if the pad arms & such are interchangable for
installing on the RS-60 & RS 80?

Is the tubing larger?

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

The RS-80 at a good price was always considered a viable upgrade from
the 60. It was more stable, with an extra brace across the front and
a little more elbow room on the right wing for the extra tom. The
tubing was the same lightweight aluminum, with the standard diameter;
the Xtreme rack was the only one in the Yamaha e-line that was
substantively different. The hardware on the 60 and 80 was
interchangeable, but the cymbal stands on the latter were the
superior boom type, as on the RS-100, as opposed to the straight arms
that came with the RS-60.

Hi and thanks Ed,

It was just that I've seen sites listing Yamaha electronic drum
accessories with a few items listed for use with the RS 80 rack and
was wondering if I can also use them with my RS 60 rack. They didn't
make that clear, but it seems so!

As for the more stable RS 80 racks etc...I had contacted a Yamaha
parts supplier (when I bought replacement triggers for my DTXpress I
kick pad) and inquired to them about the extra bracing that came
with the newer DTXpress II kits. I was told that I could purchase
the extra DTXpress II bracings separately & install them on my
DTXpress I kit. Which I've been thinking about.
I only use my kit for recording with my Cubase based computer DAW,
so the instability of my RS 60 rack is not a major problem.
Hmmm...I wonder if that bracing is still available...?
