some really simple questions (lost my manual)

some really simple questions (lost my manual)

2003-10-20 by selfcase

1. how do i change the sound assigned to the metronome? i want it to
be handclaps because handclaps are cool.

2. the handclaps in the dtxpress II suck ass. there are like 2 of
them. is there any way i can download or record better handclaps on
my computer and get them stored as a sound in the dtxpress brain? is
that possible? do i need to buy stuff to do this?

3. if i'm making my own kit, and assign one of those pre-recorded
drum grooves to a pad, what do i do so that when i hit the pad once
it starts the drum groove, and when i hit it a second time it turns
off? i can't figure out how to do this. when i hit the pad a second
time right now it just plays the drum groove again over the oringinal
one playing and it sounds awful.

thanks!

Goto to the UT SEQ Click screen to the set the voice cat./num for the
Hi/Mid/Lo click sounds.

Sounds cannot not be sampled and added to the voice list on the dtxpress II.

Press the "Utility" button, and then Page down through the menus until you
reach UT SEQ Click screen.

Pad Song Playback (Start/Stop)

To playback a Pad Song, hit the pad that is assigned to the Pad Song you
want to playback. Hit the same pad during playback will stop the song. Hit
the pad again to start the song from the beginning.

* Before using, set the pad's function to "Pad Song Control" and assign a
song to the pad (>Drum Kit Voice Edit Mode [2-6. Function].

Press the "Voice" button and scroll to:
KIT IN=kick (Change kick to pad being used)
Func= Normal....(Change from Normal to Pad Song)

Press the "Voice" button and scroll to:
KIT IN=kick (Change kick to pad being used)
Song= 1 (Set to song no. 1-127) = -- (Set to -- for normal playback,
rp=repeat) = Play (Set to "Play", "Chse","ctof")

Play= will play when pad is struck, and stop when pad is struck
Chse= Will play one measure each time pad is struck
ctof=Will play when pad is struck and stop when pad is struck. But
also when a
second pad is set to "ctof" the sound will cutoff before the next
pad sound starts.

I have never used it before, but is sounds simple.

I take it that the picture on the Japanese web page is the IIISP
edition, which the three-sound cymbals and the new hi hat and stand.
The standard IIISTD doesn't seem to change much from the II, except
for the stand. Anyone get that impression? And it's all still 16 bit.
But otherwise what an improvement. Barring unforeseen and unexpected
problems, nice job Yamaha. Anyone have the Windows Japanese
translator?

Hey OGD,

Are you going for it--on the same triple scale as your current setup?
The III probably won't show up here until after Winter NAMM, so
there's time for financial planning. They listed prices in Yen. Can
you transpose into dollars?

Any bets that Rob's nice new ROMs, with chokable cymbals on all
input, are "borrowed" from the III?

Those cymbals look very sweet. I hope it's at Music Live! in
Birmingham.

Pity I just had to pay £1200 (nearly $2000) for a new ABS control
unit for the Audi...

Nothing in English, but no doubt they are targeting Japan first.
Some tidbits:

*) They expect to sell 5000 units in the first fiscal year (or is that
all they're able to make?)
*) Street date is November 30th.
*) The DTXPIIISTD has the same pad/rack setup as the DTXPII. The
DTXPIIISP is as pictured.
*) They say they have improved the sample and voice quality, primarily
for the cymbals. Other than that, module changes appear to be
incremental. Maximum voice polyphony is still 32, sample width is still
16-bit, etc.

I wonder what the improvement is. I'm willing to be that they didn't
get new samples, but they could have "cleaned" the olds ones up
(assuming they needed to) or boosted them. I've never read of anyone
testing the Yamaha samples for noise (the Rolands get high marks).

I think we'll just have to wait and see, as the marketing-speak isn't
very clear on what the improvement is. They say the sounds, primarily
the cymbal sounds, are "more realistic" (in fact, they say this twice),
but that could mean just about anything.

Thanks for pointing to the "translation," which, incidentally, is a

instrument conversion, with the almost same performance
characteristic as the acoustic drum while the session which utilizes
automatic performance function (combination playing) and from the
fact that also negative one performance is possible, it acquired
wide support from the beginner to the professional musician.
@After that, as the enrollment edition without impairing function

@Details are as follows.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------

< Main merit >

1. New development round 3 zone pad adoption. ' DTXPIIISP ' real
play impression
' DTXPIIISP ' the aperture 15 inch round pad has supposed the ride
cymbal mainly. As for the pad for the former ride cymbal, it was
possible to produce the timbre which differs in the pad section and
the edge, but ' DTXPIIISP ' with furthermore by the fact that the
sensor is added to the cup section, 3 zones of the pad section, the
edge and the cup section be able to assign sound respectively, the
performance expression which is closer to the raw drum becomes
possible. Furthermore when hitting, from the detailed legato
execution where also return condition of feel and the stick quite is
close to the raw drum, hits the phrase at a stroke smoothly, you can
obtain the natural performance impression to powerful play. In
addition being to be the round cymbal, it shakes and reproduces also
feeling and hitting feeling to real. Approximately it is like -30dB
and practice stand set silent characteristic by comparison with the
acoustic drum.

2. Real high hat stand installing type high hat pad of stepping on
feeling
' DTXPIIISP ' installing in the existing high hat stand, you can use
the high hat pad, it is completely new type. It can build in the
sensor of the high hat clutch and one somatotype in the round rubber
pad of 13 inches, can adjust also the open condition of the top and
the bottom. Also the weight which corresponds to the rod quite is
close to the genuine high hat, there is no strange feeling in
stepping on feeling. The stereo pad (the dual zone) being to be
specification, it reproduces also performance and the foot splash
execution which acquire high hat unique strength to real.

3. The tone generator module section where it can add various
improvements
' DTXPIIISTD ' and ' DTXPIIISP ' together the sound source (drum
trigger module: The right photograph) with the treble quality which
centers cymbal sound the ripple mark and pre-setting voice were
added, furthermore real the timbre was actualized. With ƒ"ƒ@[ƒ`ƒƒƒ‹ƒZƒb
ƒVƒ‡ƒ" function of all the 95 tunes which add new tune, by the fact
that the CD player is connected to the AUX terminal, choosing
favorite tune from stock CD, session (combination playing) also it
is possible to do.

4. The silver color was adopted the rack system of new design
It is difficult to slide the pipe surface, the alumite processing to
which the scar is difficult to be attached was administered. In
addition because the joint part and the clamps of each pipe have
done processing which cuts the groove, the pads are held securely,
the performance which is stabilized is made possible. '
DTXPIIISTD ', from the former model ' DTXPIIISP ' corresponding to
the increase of the cymbals, from, more, it improved stability to
the compact. Concerning packing to assemble, because it is folding
system of being completed, putting out from the box, it is possible
to use directly.

DTXPress III

2004-05-10 by jonobacon

Hi all,

A few questions:

- Any more update when the three zone cymbal shaped cymbals are out?

- How many pads can I connect to a DTXpress III? I am ideally after
another cymbal pad (preferably one with a bell) and another tom. Is
this possible?

- I am going to be playing really fast double kick laden death metal
on this kit - shoulsd this be fine and everything trigger ok for
really fast double bass playing?

Cheers,

  Jono

Hi Jono,

Here's one set of answers. I haven't heard anything more about when
components from the new kits will go on sale individually. You might
shoot an email to Ed Morin at Drumbalaya; he might have more of an
idea by now.

The DTXPIII, like its predecessors, has two extra mono inputs,
accessed through a single jack labeled 9/10. You can't use them in
any configuration to get both sounds from one of Yamaha's "stereo"
cymbals (or pads); only the main piezo of a stereo cymbal will fire.
But you can add a true dual-zone cymbal, with a bell (e.g., a Visu-
lite), into input 9/10 with a stereo cable. Then, however, you
wouldn't have any room for another mono tom. A mono cymbal and tom
would work fine in 9/10. You also might be able to move a mono pad
from inputs 3, 4, or 5 to 9/10 so that you could add a new stereo
cymbal to the vacated input. Maybe somebody can confirm.

I don't want to get ahead of the game, but if Keith's magic box
proves to be viable, more opportunities to expand inputs are on the
way. Stay tuned.

The DTXPU module should be able to handle the fast double kicks.

According to UPS I have some of those new round cymabals arriving today.
Along with a rack, drum pads, brain and cables. I will let you all know
in a couple of days how they seem to be working.

Cool. Keep us posted, and if you can take some photos, that would be
cool. :)

I recieved a DTXpIIIsp on Friday, put it together on Saturday. I seem
to recall glancing at the back panel to check for free inputs and
finding none.
Time spent with it this weekend was preoccupied with the defective RHH130
hi-hat controller component, concern was assuaged this morning after calling
the Yamaha contact named in an earlier post to have it replaced.

This is my first edrum kit, save for building a Cabonga about 30 years
ago, so
other listers may be better able to give competent opinions about it.
I've done
no tweaking, so the cymbal sensitivities that seemed backwards from rim
to bow
deserve some twiddling.

Pictures on the other hand...mebbe tonight!

Charlie,

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum. Input 9/10 is there,
hiding behind the cables. We look forward to your comments and pics.

Is it not taken up by the 'extra' cymbal on the IIISP?

Though I should add that the extra cymbal is mono, taking up input 9
but leaving input 10 free for another mono component (both to be
accessed via a TRS stereo to dual-mono splitter). Right?

Although presumably as the third cymbal is a mono one then input 10
is effectively unused and a splitter would allow that to become, for
example, the kick leaving input 1 as a free stereo input.

Another good point. I keep forgetting about the KP65's ability to
take advantage of a stereo input in this way. Thanks for reminding
me as I will probably be taking advantage of it when I get my
PCY150S (soon!) and move my PCY65 to input 10.

You shouldn't need the splitter, as one is built into the KP65. By plugging
the PCY130 mono cymbal into the KP65 and then taking the output of the KP65
(with a stereo cable) into inputs 9/10, it will leave you with the stereo
input no. 1 free for another pad. Also, consider that you could take the
PCY130S that is in the three zone input no. 7 and move it to input no. 1 and
then you could add another PCY150S three zone pad and plug it into input no.
7. Thus having two three zone cymbal pads.

Just so as not confuse anyone. The KP65 takes advantage of splitting a dual
zone input, not a stereo input. It will only function properly as a
"splitter" when plugged into input 9/10. The extra input will not work if
the KP65 is plugged into any of the true stereo inputs no. 1 through no. 8.
