Dave Jewell's response to my inquiry about the DTXpress III

Dave Jewell's response to my inquiry about the DTXpress III

Ed,
Thanks for the e-mail. As you have been the first to find out we are
going to be introducing some new kits at NAMM. However, our dealer
base in the US has not been told about these kits because we are just
getting final detail and pricing. It would be unfair to my dealer
base to let you know details before I give them the information so if
you can hang on until January I would appreciate it. Thanks for your
support of the drums and you will be very excited about the new
developments.

So the NAMM launch is not just the new Xtreme brain but a re-launch
of the whole range, right from Xpress on up? Cool! Wonder if they
will stick with an entry/middle/top tier modules (as they have done
in the past, and Roland do now) or if they'll consolidate and just
have two overlapping tiers? I would have thought the latter more cost-
effective.

Stewart,

The two Xpress versions might make up for the midlevel.

Here's a translation of the part of the Japanese report that
interested me:

"After that, as the enrollment edition without impairing function and
performance characteristic in 1999 June, cost decrease was
actualized ' DTXPRESS ' (D tea express), adopted 3 zone pads in 2002
July ' DTXPRESSII ' to announce, as improvement is repeated, it
permeated to the market securely. As a result, ' DTXTREME ' of the
professional use model (D tea extreme) the sum total sale quantity of
the DTX series which is included became until approximately 55% of
sale of approximately 38,000 units and corporation drum the whole
this is occupied 2003 9 end of the month presently."

Can anybody fathom what the point about the DTXtreme is?

Ed,

My take (which may be wrong) is that Yamaha introduce the DtxpressI in June
1999 at a lower cost than the DTXtreme without any major sacrifices in
function and characteristics. That in 2002 they repeated their success, by
introducing the DtxpressII, that contained the 3zone pads which help them
secure market share in the edrum world. And thus with the whole line of the
DTX's (including the xtreme/xpress) it represents 55 percent of their total
drum kits sold which is 38,000 units up through Sept of 2003.

OGD,

As Rex Harrison said in My Fair Lady, By God, I think he's got it, or
something to that effect. That makes tremendous sense; you're a
genious. I think the moral of your point about the internet is the
one about one hand not knowing what the other is doing. With all of
the corporate world's claims to efficiency, real results are often
scattershot, and embarrassing. As Stewart said, the feline has been
debagged before Yamaha could prepare their market, all because of a
little thing like the internet. I understand Dave's problem. In some
ways, it's bigger than all of us; in others, smaller.

By the way, OGD, Vern, and Stewart, I offered a response to your
discussion at DTXpressions about giving advance glimpses of the guide
to various manufacturers and would appreciate you guys, at least,
taking a look.

Just think, if we could have started this manual a year ago, and shared it
with Yamaha, we might actually been able to get a "by-line" in the
DtxpressIII manual that is about to hit the market as to where to go for
additional support and perhaps even a direct referral to the "Drumb and
Drumber Guide". (No pressure Stewart) Something that would never occur in
the Roland world!!
