DTXPRESS LIVE!

DTXPRESS LIVE!

2004-01-13 by jonddf

Most all the information I've been able to find on the net relating
to the DTXPRESS 2 'live' capabilities (i.e. through an amplifier) has
been very limited. In fact I've only ever seen reference to use of
headphones. I expect to get a DTXPRESS before long and wondered what
other members put their DTXPRESS through at home when they want
it 'live', and also what their opinions are. I note that the local
Yamaha dealer does not have his display kit set up through an
amp....headphones only! To me, this is a ploy to ensure any potential
customer only hears the best sound possible?

i have mine rigged up through a 400 watt PA at the mo,using the mono
out to a pair of phono inputs on the mixer.
this sounds ok,but i really need a set of 15" subs for the bass, and
to use horn speakers for the cymbles.
all in all, good sound can be heard, and its crisp.

word of warning tho, dont rig it through the home stereo!!

how much are you paying for your kit and where from??
im from hull and bought mine for £925 when it was first released over
here, i had to go to bluewater, kent ( london area, about 260 miles for
you foriegners) to collect it,i got free stool, sticks, pedals ect.
let me know, cheers.

Thanks for the info. I've seen prices as low as £725 at Piedog on the
net. That said, I e-mailed them the other day and they didn't have
any in stock. A local music store reckons to have them in stock at
£750 which is where I'll probably end up if I get one. Interestingly,
the guy in the store knew nothing about the forthcoming DTX3. I've a
Marshall 8240 Valvestate combo amp at home for guitar use. It's got
two big speakers that look like 12 inchers. It weighs a ton and I'll
be putting the kit through that to start with....unless I'm using
headphones of course!

I have been using a Peavey PA- older model- not sure what the model # is. 2
cabinets with 12" woofers and horns and a honkin' big 6-channel amp.. It
sounds excellent in the venue I inhabit. Other folks rave about a variety of
keyboard amps, specifically Rolands, Crates and Peaveys. Playing live tends
to upset the trigger behavior of the system, so allow yourself plenty of
set-up time. I believe this is due to air and structure-borne vibrations
from the other instruments which cause false triggers. The PA also gives me
very different balance on the cymbal sounds- I have to turn the cymbals up
to 11 for headphone work and back them off a lot playing live.

Jon:
For live performances, I run my kit through the PA. The PA is 600W
per channel with two 15" 2-way cabinets. I also run the kit through a
140W Samson Keyboard amp with a 15" speaker and 2" driver. The
keyboard amp provides stage volume as well as reinforcing the house
mix.
