pedal adjust

pedal adjust

2004-03-12 by Creighton Higgins

I hate my HH-60. I find it challenging to achieve consistent behavior
and it seems to make a world of difference where I put my foot on the
pedal and how far away from me the pedal is placed. I like to be able to
play a closed hat and lift my foot and get a brief open splash. This
only seems to work about half the time. I just can't always spare the
concentration to assure that the pedal is laced just so and my foot is
in just the right spot, etc. It can't possibly be me since my technique
is always impecable. Har. Just thought I would get this off my chest.

Anyway- what is the exact purpose of the height adjustment on this
device? What results can one expect? ( I know I can mess with it- I'm
just curious how others set theirs up.)

Creighton,

The support group for haters of the HH-60 meets every Thurs. night at
7:00 pm in OGD's basement, where users of electronic hi hats undergo
penetrating, though sympathetic, therapy for their bruised emotions
(sorry for any inconvenience, OGD). The idea behind the pscyhology
is, "To understand is to forgive."

On the HH65 the adjustment is for the slop factor at the top of the stroke.
By setting it at the highest setting, you will need to push down farther
before any contact is made with the rubber pad that triggers the first stage
of partially closed sound. This allows you to put a slight amount
weigh/movement on the pedal without triggering the voice. By setting it at
the lowest setting, minimal contact will start to trigger the first stage of
a partially closed sound. You can see the L-bracket from the photos in the
gallery section here, which is what is being adjusted. I would assume that
the HH-60 would function very similarly.

I am confused or my calender is wrong, I thought that the support group for
the haters of the KP-60 meets at 7:00pm and the haters of the HH-60 meet at
8:00 pm??

OGD,

You're absolutely right, but when Creighton dropped out of the KP-60
hate group, it folded. And he's being strangely silent about the HH-
60 group, too. Maybe he's doing something silly, like working.

Maybe you guys forget- when I asked to join, no one would be my
sponser. I've been going to anger management classes instead. So far
I've managed to be angry at my HH60.
