How compatilbe are the Roland cymbals with the DTX III? Anyone use the Rolands on an older Yamaha Module?

You seem to have won me today as the booby prize. I've used Roland cymbals with a Yamaha module--mostly the CY-6. I didn't love it, and I didn't hate it. What I liked was its roundness and solidity, and what I didn't like so much was its reserve and its slightly unreliable rim triggering--which was a common fault a few years ago. Some of the lack of gain can be attributed to the Yamaha module, which has certain limitations in sensitivity when used with other companies' equipment. I have a feeling that the CY-8 may be a better complement to the DTXpress than its predecessor was because of the position of the piezo. But if possible, I'd try before buying. However, no such warning is necessary with the new round Yamahas, and the prices will probably be more reasonable. And on't forget the Pintech Zenbals--a very popular alternative around here. Ed

Flex: I used the CY-6 cymbals for about a month before I retired them for the Zenbals. As Ed mentioned, the rim trigger was very difficult to engage, even when the thresholds were adjusted accordingly. Do seriously consider the Pintechs. Stephen

I am considering getting an additional cymbal to add to the DTX III, and don't know if I want to wait for Yamaha to start shipping pads and controllers seperately. The guys at Drumbalaya thought it might be a considerable wait... Bret

If the Drumbalaya Ed said so, you can take it to the bank. Stephen Brown, of previous post fame, has a nice compact review of the Zenbal line; you can find it in our Files section. Brian LaRue, who runs Pintech, is a good friend of this forum. Ed

The cymbal does a better job of staying put and it triggers much more reliably both in the center and edge. It still doesn't trigger as reliably as the Yamaha cymbals- but you know- I've had 2 of them fail so far. I expect perfection in all things (myself excluded) and am consequently disapointed in everything. Support group schedules will be be posted shortly. I expect to be disappointed in the level of participation.
