Power adaptor

Power adaptor

2004-04-04 by Nick Carroll

I've been playing my DTXpress (original model) with my country band
for 18 months now, both at practice and at gigs. It has been a big
success. But the thought has suddenly occurred to me: What if the
12 volt DC power adaptor should fail? Then we would have no drums!
Has anyone been caught out like that? I am thinking I should buy a
spare power adaptor, just in case the first one should fail.

Nick,

I had the same thought - and discovered that the power supply in my
10 yr old daughter's Yamaha keyboard is the same as the Dtxpress -
you can get them from Argos I think much more cheaply than from
Yamaha.

Reassuringly I've never had a failure in 4 years - and the Dtxpress
Mk1 itself has never been any bother either. However the power
supply to my daughter's keyboard did fail and we replaced it with
one from Argos. So it's a wise precaution.

regards,
William

sorry Nick - just noticed you're in Australia !

I guess you will have the equivalent of our (UK) Argos superstores
:-)

regards,
William

Hi Nick
Yamaha does recommend that you use the proper Yammaha adapter but the
one you need is a very popular one. As long as the output of the
adapter is the same as the origional one it will work fine.(I think
it's 12 volts DC / 1.5 amps)

Well then, go buy one. They are certainly cheap enough. Good insurance I would say. To me, it's a no brainer.

Yes, I'll certainly look at getting the certified Yamaha brand, or
something as reliable. I've had no problem with the power adapter
thus far, but my adapters for other devices such as CD player, MD
player, etc., have all started to give up the ghost. So it does seem
to be the most vulnerable part of the kit.

A no-brainer, yes. Because if the adapter fails, the brain won't
work! :)

Re: Power adaptors wasting electricity

2004-04-05 by G

The transformer in the power adapter will always draw a small amount
of current, even when the module is off. If you unplug the adapter
when it's not in use it will last a lot longer and your electricity
bill will be smaller. (It's actually a really small amount of watts
but if you have alot of power adapters in your house that are not in
use every day it makes a difference at the end of the year)
