Help! TP65s not firing on all 3 zones...

Help! TP65s not firing on all 3 zones...

2004-04-10 by Just ask..

Greetings everyone,

I have a new-used Dtexpress II with my snare only firing the snare
sound. The rims are not firing separate sounds.

The first thing I did when I got the kit home was too reset the
factory presets, still no sounds out of all three zones from my
TP65s. Ohhh and it's plugged into input #2 with a stereo cord.

Am I missing something? Is there a setting I can go too to fix this
or is this trigger toast??

Thanks in advance,
D~man.

Preset, as far as I know, the brain doesn't have sounds assigned to
either switch on the Snare, just the piezo with both switches closed
as the snare. You have to manually go in and assign sounds to the
switches. As for that, I'm not completely sure as I don't have my
DTXpress yet, can get it in a few weeks. I have read the manual
online and I believe you have to go into the trigger mode and hit the
snare to select it and then I'm not sure form there. Just so you
don't worry, its not a problem with the snare or brain, its just you,
the user, has to manually set the sounds for those switches in the
TP65S.

D~man,

Here are a few things you can try (note that the page numbers
referred to below are the page numbers of the manual that comes with
the kit and not the downloadable PDF manuals from Yamaha's website):

Try using a different stereo cord first. (Also, make sure you are
using the TP65S and not the TP65. The TP65S has grooves around the
top edge, the TP65 does not.)

Next up is check to see if the trigger setup for input no. 2 is set
to a pad type "TP65-1" and not "TP65-2".(Page 36 of manual)

Next go into voice edit mode for that pad and verify that a voice is
assigned to the "snare" , to "snrR1" and to "snrR2". Make sure the
volume is setup on all three voices. (Page 40 of the manual)

If it still doesn't work, connect the pad to trigger inputs 6 or 7.
You will need to temporarily change the trigger type and the voice
assignments, so copy the existing settings down before you change
them.

If it still doesn't work, then if maybe a bad pad.

Good Luck. Let us know what happens.

OGD,

Thanks this helped alot.

I've now discovered that snrR1 does not fire at all and snrR2 only
works very close to the mount. It looks like I need a new TP65s.

Thanks again your tips where just what I needed.
