wires cords, cords, wires everywhere

wires cords, cords, wires everywhere

2004-05-07 by slushycow

Hello again all,

As I'm working on my drums "look". I was wondering what people are
doing about all the cords all over the place. I breakdown and set up
my kit at least 3 times a week. At present, I just leave the wires
kind of hanging out near the brain. I've done the best I can so far
by tying the wires to the rack, but it still ain't pretty.

So, I was wondering what some of you are doing to control the cords
running throughout the kit? Since I move it so much, I haven't found
a good way to maintain the cords.

Thanks in advance,

Jon in Japan

P.S. From my previous post, I've decided to use a regular base drum
with a mesh head and trigger, as well as a new individual snare pad.
Pintech maybe. Whacha think?

Thanks Jerry,

I'm trying to imagine your set up. So, you have the wires coming out
of the brain. Then they are all grouped into one line? So what
happens with the many different lentghs? I mean, they have to
spread out to go to the different drums.

I tried to group mine together, but after they started splitting, my
idea feel through.

I know it's hard to explain like this, but thanks a lot for
explaining.

Jon in Japan

Hi Jon: I run the wires coming from my floor tom, up the side rack, and use
a tie wrap, then I do the same for the tom, toms, continuing to go to the
left, then down to the floor. At that point, they should all be hanging from the
module to the floor, and then I use a three to four foot mesh, which I found
in bestbuy, and wrap the wires, so that they are all together. The tie wraps,
help to clean up any loose wires around the rack. Its not perfect, but alot
better then it was before. Also for the cymbals I tie wrap them down the shaft.

Good Luck, and let me know if I helped, Jerry

You need to have the rack look something like this when you have finished

http://www.edrumming.com/gallery/Gunnys-Album/Drums180304_014

I have used a rigid but flexable tubing that I have split all the way along
so that the cables can be put in and come out at different points.

For the Bass Drum Question.

See this http://home.btconnect.com/The-Fire-Service/zimagesnick/drum1.htm

you can use parts of this idea or the snare idea it is up to you but that is
the best way to do it. If you need to ask any questions email me direct.

That looks very neat - you should be able to get that "concertina"
hose from the DIY store ?
The new DTXIII comes with all the wires pre tiewrapped in 1 big
bundle with each wire breaking off from the main loom just before the
pad - they also supply a bag of velcro wraps to fasten it all to the
frame - AND there are proper plastic labels on the end so fitting and
removing take less than a minute. All very neat

Gunny,

Brilliant. How do you keep the kick from wandering?

You can also get split tube and velcro ties from our good friends at
Drumbalaya (in the cable management section of their online store). I
picked up a variety of split tube and velcro ties to do my Hart/Yamaha
DTXtreme kit, very much like the picture previously linked by "Gunny".

Attached to the rack, as per the standard Koby kick, I think. I
refer my honorable colleague to Exhibita A and B:

The top of the Yamaha Tom has the Hex type tom mount. The mount arm is then connected to the rack, it could almost hand from the rack except it would swing then.
Glad you like it

Re: wires cords, cords, wires everywhere

I use velcro and wrap it around the wires so that the wires are on
the unshown side of the tubing...as in on the drummers side. Keep the
wires hidden and makes the kit look ver nice. As for your base drum
idea, I do like it but with rubber pads i think it may look odd, but
then again i have never seen that set-up with my own eyes so I
wouldn't worry about. Don't let what I think decide for you, its your
choice.
