DTXPRESS rack MIA

DTXPRESS rack MIA

2004-06-01 by buddyrich4444

talk about torture: I get 2 packages from musicians friend today (they
took over a week for "3 day select" because of the weekend holiday).
Well with my bad luck - the rack is not with it. The company said they
aren't sure where it is and to "call in a couple days if I dont hear"-
so I wont be seeing it anytime soon I guess. So I have the complete
DTXpressIII brand new with no rack sitting right next to me , MAN. Can
anyone give me info on the rack and stands? The company claims it to
be 70 Lbs packed but I thought it was a lot less. What can I do
without going crazy? Can I set it up on a bed or something? Any help
would be appreciated- this is the last item I will ever buy online in
my life because literally the last 10 things I bought turned out to be
major headaches and never worked out like they should.

First off, the rack box is 35 lbs MAX. Second, you can try to set it
up on the floor but i don't garuntee any ounce of success. Third,
word to the wise, never buy something online if its huge or worth
more than about $200. Your best bet is to bring in the internet price
to your local shop and they will most likely match it, and then buy
it through them. Ordering through a local store by their catalog is
also a great source. Internet buying is horrible. I bought a few
paintball supplies and it turned out to be 3 weeks of having no
working gun and a bunch of crap parts...had to get the whole drop-
forward replaced because it was so defective. Oh well.

Hey Buddyrich4444, I'm so sorry to hear about your bad luck with your
DTXPRESS III Kit not showing up today. I'm not trying to rub anything
in, at all; however, I did receive mine today, in all 3 boxes and an
extra box with the bass kick pedal and headphones in it. I have bought
a couple of items from Musicians Friend before with no problem and to
tell you, so at least it will hopefully help you feel a little better,
I'm sure they will find it soon and do what ever is necessary to take
care of the problem. I know that doesn't take care of the excitement of
thinking you were going to have it all today and be able to be playing
it by now and everything, however, they are a pretty reputable on-line
eCommerce company and they have been for quite a while, I'm sure they
will make it right for you.

I know it's easy for me to say, have patience and you might even get
something worth while out of it for having patience with them. They
will probably offer you something for free for having patience with
them, or something like that. I don't know. The rack box weighed, I
would say probably about 45 lbs., I'm not sure. As far as having any
ideas about how you could set it up and possibly play it until your rack
get there, I really don't know how that would work. I hate to say it
pretty much needs to have the rack in order to work right to make it
secure and not wiggle or bounce all over the place and everything. Any
way, again, I'm really sorry about all your trouble. I know that I have
ordered hundreds of things on-line before and I've never had anything,
worth speaking of, happen negatively to me in regards to shipping or
anything else. I'm sure things like this happen every once in a while
with all of the companies, so far I've just really been lucky.

I wish you the best of luck in finding the rest of your kit and you will
be glad once you have it all. It is all worth it. It is fantastic to
play. I don't remember how you were amplifying it, however, I'm one of
the ones that was talking about buying a Behringer KX1200 amplifier and
I did. This amplifier is fantastic. I don't know what else to say
about it other than it is just right down awesome. It sounds
greattttttttt... Any way take care and I wish you the best.

See Ya later,
Glen

P.S. Let us all know the outcome of it all, will you. Thanks!

If you have four kids, find a reason to punish them, and make them
hold the pads.
I will never buy anything online either, I like taking it out of the
store and strait home, saving a few bucks online can'r match taking
it out of a shop, even an hours drive is better than waiting for it
in the mail.

Glad you aren't trying to rub anything in ;)

I have also never had problems online THOUGH I have a great
relationship with local dealer and I would just buy through them for
new... when I don't and I tell them the deal I got (used) they say
damn I wish I would have found that ;)

Good luck and keep us updated!

OH, I did have an ENGINE stand get lost but UPS made it right and
paid the guy to send me another one!

For those of you who are relatively new to the game, Musician's
Friend is the web version of Guitar Center. They keep a large
inventory and generally have competitive pricing. However, like all
high volume, impersonal stores, MF has its share of horror stories. E-
drummers are well advised to get acquainted drumbalaya.com, which
specializes in e-drum equipment from almost every manufacturer under
the sun, as well as many of the ancillary products. It's as close to
one-stop shopping for drummers who plug into the wall as you'll find.
Not only is the selection extraordinary; you can also communicate
directly with the people who sell it. And they know what they're
talking about. Ed and Charlotte Morin started the store from scratch
out of a love for music and electronic drums. You can't do better
than that.

This brings up another point. Many of the best and most interesting e-
drum gear is made by cottage-industry companies that are not
represented at many, if any, local brick-and-mortar dealer. Many of
us have had to rely on the web for years to buy components from
Pintech, Hart, Visu-lite, Drum Tech, and any number of other
companies. One of the drawbacks is that we often cannot try before we
buy. But places like Drumbalaya, as well as forums like this one and
others, can make remote decisions less risky. Cultivating a
relationship with a local deal is prudent, ethical, and convenient,
but sometimes it won't help, especially when the gear is esoteric.

I can only echo Ed's response: Drumbalaya is Mecca for e-drummers. I
have never felt like they were pushing me into something I didn't want
or need; their inventory tends toward comprehensive; their shipping is
prompt, and their website has comparison charts that help with
decisions. In other words they offer really good retail service in a
web-based environment. I should mention that many items have an
additional discount code which might require you to jump through a hoop
or two, but the payoff is more than worthwhile. Add to that the free
shipping and (for most folks) lack of sales tax and I can only reccomend
them. They did, however mis-type my street address which delayed arrival
of my kit by ONE DAY but after careful consideration- I have decided to
forgive.

Thanks guys, I decided to call them again, because the first time I
called : The guy said "it's an incorrect tracking number that we gave
you". The second time I called "We will place a track on it - it may
have been lost in transit". I emailed them and they said "here are the
tracking numbers" (while giving the numbers of items I already
received). I was gonna just call and get a manager but the person I
talked to today said that "the package is in the system with a
delivery date of today", so i got the ## and checked it out and I
guess the problem was on UPS's end (they sent it to the wrong town
yesterday). So All in all I should have this set up at 3 Am when I get
home from work tonight. One of the things I liked about using this
company rather than a local place was that I have a full year to pay
off the items (interest free) and no taxes. But I guess in the end it
would have been worth it to go out locally and save myself a few
nights of sleep.

You are correct in everything you metioned... I guess I should
clarify my relationship with my local dealer. I was in one of
the "hotest" bands to come out of my area and in very good with the
other "hotest" group. My guitar player and drummer for that group
worked at this store before we all had to quit real jobs to play
(never a problem ;) and I have run sound for a few of the other guys
that work there's bands. Basically I never buy anything, I just go
in and BS with the guys and it's more of a friendship so they shoot
me straight on anything I buy. In fact the manager shows me his cost
on anything that I look at buying from him or anyone! Of coarse this
is not typical but it is nice to develop a relationship like this ;)

The other dealers know the "weight" I carry with my recomendations on
sound so they treat me with a little more respect then your average
Joe... NOT trying to sound big headed but we don't have many good
sound engineers in town so it doesn't take much to be ranked in the
top few. Sad thing is I don't even like engineering I just did it
cause I was good at it and those guys needed my help.

I really like the idea of drumbalaya (that's a shame I don't know if
that spelling is right and I'm from South Louisianna),
