Where are the PCY130s?

Where are the PCY130s?

2004-07-10 by rjwyatt_99

Hey Folks,

I've had an order placed at my local shop (Long & McQuade in Ottawa,
Canada) for some PCY130s and Yamaha doesn't seem to be able to give
L+M a reliable availability date (original was early June, now the
answer is "don't know").

Does anyone know if the PCY130s are available yet as extra pads (not
part of the DTXpress III kit)?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Rich.

Rich,

Yamaha originially said if the DtxpressIII/IIIsp and the Dtxtreme IIS
were selling like hot cakes, that the sale of individual components
would be delayed. Folks in the Asian market who got the first crack
at the Dtxpress III/IIIsp back in Nov. 2003, also got first crack at
the extra cymbal pads in the time frame between then and the release
here. From what I can tell the kits are being sold as quickly as they
come in. So you may have to wait it out.

Drumbalaya had some PCY150S and PCY130S in stock a few weeks back, I
don't know if they still have any left. I saw one other site that
advertised the PCY130S, but they were not in stock for immediate
shipment.

Ed Morin is a member here, maybe he can update us on the available
issues at his site. Have not seen anybody advertising the PCY130 yet
though.

And I've noticed only two places advertising the DTXT2U for sale
separately, Drumbalaya and Musicians Buy. In general, many of the
most comprehensive web stores have not yet begun selling the Yamaha
kits at all, especially the new DTXtreme. In fact, I've seen almost
as many inert traces of the old DTXtreme as listings of the new one.

OGD/Ed,

Thanks for the info.

Are there any good alternative pads (Pintech etc) that I should be
considering? I have a DTXpress II kit and a Roland Octapad II that I
can connect them to.

Cheers,
Rich.

Rich,

Pintech offers some excellent Yamaha-compatible cymbals. I'm
particularly fond of the acrylic Visu-lite line, which are either
mono or true dual zones. Brian has also told me that Pintech has
mastered Yamaha's version of the tri-sound cymbal (bell/bow/edge), in
the zenbal and PC line for now. They may be waiting for NAMM to
release them, but I should have a NAMM preview from Pintech pretty
soon.

Hello Ed.

Yeah I bet those cymbals are excellent, but what I
really really want(for some reason those damn spice
girls came to my mind)is a Dtxpress Compatible 3-zone
mesh pad.

I guess that's the only non-yamaha gear I would really
like to add, besides I'd like it to be a 10" pad,
cause anything bigger would look disproportionate to
my taste.

Regards all

Hi guy,

Now that would be a neat trick. A three-zone mesh would not seem to
be possible on the old rubber two switch/one piezo principle, since
rim and head are not on a uniform playing surface. If it were to be
done with two piezos on opposite sides of a mesh-shell metal rim
(instead of one, in addition to the usual piezo on the head), the
piezos would have to be isolated from each other like crazy (or some
sort of special rejection principles would have to be incorporated
into the module to stop the sonic hemorrhaging). One triple-zone pad
would need three distinct inputs (and a lot of processing), putting a
strain on module design and kit size. Whatever it turned out to be,
it wouldn't be compatible with the DTXpress as we know it, or any
other module, and it might be too expensive and inconvenient to do on
its own terms, if even possible. I'm hardly an electronics expert, so
maybe Keith or OGD could demolish my reasoning.
