Yes, it is a six-color printer, and the only change to the printer is installing new cartridges. But your workflow will probably change and might become quite complex: There are several B&W-only inksets for the 1400, with different characteristics (e.g. UT14 can be used on glossy or matte papers, but Eboni-6 on glossy must be treated after printing) and which one is best for you will depend on a number of factors: glossy vs matte paper, desired print tone, tolerance for learning new software, etc. There have been quite a few threads regarding the various B&W options for the 1400, so you should probably search the group archives for more information.
