If the 1400 and third party inks are not an option in your area currently, then I'd still stay with Epson, so that you'll have QTR available and have the option of moving to other inksets. The Epson piezo head gives those printers an advantage in the extent to which third parties support them. I often go more than a week between printing jobs on my 7800, and it does not have to be that much of a problem. Not all pigment inks clog. I use Carbon-6 in the 7800 to hold costs down.
