If you do not plan to make colour prints but only fine art BW prints, then the Epson 1400 with a dedicated BW ink set (see Paul Roark's solutions like EB6 ou EB1400) is probably the best solution to learn the real digital BW process and make wonderful prints. Regarding costs, the 1400 and the kits are very affordable. Sylvain.
