Rusty,
If you already own the 2880 I would reserve it for OEM/Epson inks. You can still
use the QTR rip with it but you still have the flexibility of printing color and
B&W. Grab a cheaper 2nd printer from Craigslist like Clayton recommends. I know
there are improvements in the inks, but you dont want to switch between MIS
carbon & Ultrachrome on a recurring basis. Do it once, it may require flushing
out the old UC-K3 inks but then just leave the carbon inks in. You will find
yourself in a mess if you start switching between the different inks. Keep the
2880 for a flexible printer and do all of the glossy prints on it and the carbon
B&W on the 2nd printer. That 2nd printer doesnt have to be expensive and you can
find some good printers on Craiglist for $100.00. I recently picked up a 2400
for $250 and replaced my old 2200 printer. The 1400 is the dedicated B&W printer
that handles matte only paper. I dont have to worrk about the mk-pk ink switch
in the 2400. It is just a cleaner way to work and love.
Refilling cartiridges is all too easy. As with anything, take your time, observe
what you are doing while you are doing it and never forget that one wrong move
will create a very nasty mess. It is easy to clean up since the ink is water
based, but you dont push the limits of the tools.

You can put any inks you want in the printer and drive it with QTR. But the
thing is, these printers are expensive. It seems a waste of money to buy a $700
printer (or whatever they cost today) for that when a lower cost printer will
work. So there isn't much discussion on the subject.

Clayton
