Remember that this is from the Calibration Mode print that was printed
at the default (black and others) ink limit of 35.  So,  you do want
the "100%" patch, which is really 100% of the 35% (that is, 35%).

Both.

As I understand the system and also from my experience, you use the
dilute ink patch that is at the ink limit you've determined for that
ink.  The dilute ink limits do not have to be the very last patch on
the 100% (first) Calibration Mode print where the change is positive.
Often I get a better profile & print (and use the inks more
efficiently) if I use an ink limit that is where the changes in the
density are more substantial.  In practice using the Black ink limit
for the dilute inks is a shortcut that assures that the dilute inks
will not overload the paper, while at the same time nicely
distributing the inks.

In this case the ink limit of 35 for the black was also used for the
dilute inks.  The entire second calibration print was printed at that
ink limit.  So, you should measure the 100% patch from the second (35
ink limit) Calibration Mode print.

It's important to note that I am not using the 100% patch of the first
Calibration print, which was made at 100%.

In this case the separation of the C (densest dilute ink) is not very
much at 35, but it is sufficient.

The reason I showed the pre-linearization characteristic curve is to
show that, while it's not perfectly linear, this approach makes a
fairly good curve at the outset.  See page 8 of
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/QTR-Flatbed.pdf .   Some may find the
curve actually matches their monitors rather well as is.  Also, note
that you'd like as much real information in the toe of the curve as
possible.  Interpolating down at the black cross-over can be
hazardous.
