Hi Ted, First I tried a lot around with my 1290 (= 1280) with Epson inks anly to learn the hard and expensive way, that no matter how perfect the profile is, you always have colorcasts in one or the other direction on different areas of the greyscale. Had I immediately invested in a black and white printer, this certainly would have been cheaper as I spent tons of paper and ink experimenting. Than I bought a used 1200 and the piezo driver. The results with piezography BW were just phantastic but I spent at least 1/2 of my inks for cleaning cycles... A final attempt to switching to cheaper inks (Lyson) completely clogged my 1200 and I gave up quite frustrated. After having read a lot here about the MIS full spectrum inks I decided to try again and bought an 1160. The result using the MIS inks with the piezo driver are just great and there are almost zero clogging problems. I think Piezography should think about their ink formulations as the MIS ones are so much better in terms of clogging! Anyway, better save your money and finally invest into a separate BW printer instead of wasting money trying to print BW with your 1280 using epson inks. You will most likely never be really happy with the results. Bye Andreas P.S. Meanwhile my 1200 is fixed and I might give the variable toned MIS inks a try... -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: visionone [mailto:ted@...] Gesendet: Sonntag, 10. I know that most of the discussion on this forum is about third party inks and papers. I was wondering, what is the quality of black and white printing using an Epson 1280, standard Epson inks and Epson/3rd party papers? If I don't need 100+ years of longevity, does this combo provide reasonable results? WHat about the quality/flexibility using Duo, Tri or Quad tone profiles? I am trying to figure our whether the standard Epson 1280 will do the trick because the cost of an 1160 or 1200 is sky high on Ebay vs a new 1280. This is only a hobby for me. Thoughts?
