Don't make the camera too cheap, or the kid will lose interest fast. Just like a cheap telescope. Can you imagine how many young careers in science and astronomy must have been waylaid because they could never get an acceptable image with it? Looking through a cheap telescope would make me lose interest in astronomy fast.
