Cheap is relative! I totally agree with John,,, but then again I make my living with a camera. Any camera intended for a child needs to be user friendly as opposed to complicated. Instant feedback is one of the greatest features of digital cameras, and one that helps keep kids interest going. So I would look for a model that has a good screen image and is easy to operate. My daughter is 9 years old and has a Kodak DC280 that fits the bill very nicely. I bought it new on ebay for $350 Whatever digital camera you buy, get rechargable batteries! Digital cameras eat batteries at a fast rate.
