Re: [Digital BW] Scanner comparison between Polaroid and canon...

Jerry,

You don't mention what negative sizes you want to scan but from the two
models you mention I guess it is only 35mm. It sounds like the Polaroid
Sprintscan 4000 Plus is an upgrade of the original 4000 model to bring the
electronics up to the same level as the Sprintscan 120. I had the original
version of the 4000 and I have the 120. They are both great for 35mm scans.

I imagine the competing models from the other companies are also excellent.
The quality to price ratio on 35mm film scanners seems like a pretty good
deal at this point. One feature to really compare is the area of film
carriers. Some are full frame and some are not. Some companies offer glass
sandwich carriers and others don't.

You can pay more and get better quality but you are paying more and more for
less and less improvement. I have a used Howtek D4000 on the way that will
set me back about $6,000 with all the extras. I got this primarily for my
4x5 negs. I may change my mind after I use it, but I would not have gone
this route just for my 35mm.

Martin
