Sounds like a bad printhead to me.  I have no problem printing on this paper
with any of my desktop prints (2 1160's and 2 1270's).  I've never seen a
microband.  Are you using a loupe to do the head alignment?  I use 300+gm
fine art papers all the time even with the piezo driver (which is more
sensitive than the Epson driver) and never have a problem.
