David, You said you can print the 21 step wedge, but not the photo, then the problem may be with the photo. Although it may look good on your montitor that does not mean it is as smooth as the 21 steps. Test. Paste the 21 step into the photo and print them both at the same time, and if the 21 step is not posterized, then the image is at question. So try that. Did you change the gamma and ink densities of the ICQ profile by accident? They should be 1.0 and 100. Changing them will result in effects that can look like posterization. Maybe you did too heavy a twist with curves or levels? BTW, is it just this photo or all photos?
