RE: [Digital BW] EAM - fine, Legion PM - banding, why?

2002-07-23 by Steadman Uhlich

A few possibilities:

1. Statistical Sample....it was "time" for a banded print. Random nature of
printing defects.

2. Slippery paper.
LPM has a very smoooth surface and as I recall, a different "hand" or feel
than EAM...not as stiff as I recall...check your head position lever (was it
the same for all prints?) Perhaps the slipperiness of LPM allowed a little
slipping in the transport of the paper through your printer. Check/clean
your rollers. Put your paper lever on the lower setting.

3. Its the ink. (wINK)

Yep...some people getting banding think it is the ink...and it very well
could be...but you are not using Piezo Ink.... Well...it could be a lot of
things.

Try number 2 above. To overcome number one above, just make more prints,
increase your odds of getting a good print...

4. Check and double check to make sure that when you switched drivers and
settings that when you went back to the Piezo sw you had the Epson printer
setting correctly set for Piezo. Read the manual for the proper settings
for dither, paper, speed, error diffusion, etc... Make certain.

5. Carts or CIS? Could make a difference.

Hope that helps.

  Hello all,

Earlier I had some banding problems when using the Peizo drivers (no
banding with Epson drivers and Randall curves) but was able to clear
it up with some nozzle checks and head cleanings and all has been
  fine.

But now, using the Piezo driver, I printed on EAM (no problems) and
then, wanting more vibrant whites, I tried the same print on Legion
Photo Matte and I got banding. I used the Legion Photo Matte profile
in the Piezo driver settings too. I then tried the same image on the
LPM but using the Epson drivers/Randall curve and got thinner and
closer together banding. I did a nozzle check and it was perfect. I
use an 1160 and FS-N inks. Anyone know why this happens?

  Thanks,

  Richard
