Randy, If you have done the best you can with the alignment and cleaning off the business end of the head, then you may just have a printer that has a marginal paper feed. My 1200 is like that with Piezo. No amount of aligning and cleaning ever completely removed the very fine lines I see in smooth tonal areas. These are not noticeable at normal viewing distances. With the new 1280 in smooth tonal areas under magnification I can tell which direction the head travel was in by a very subtle texture. You really have to use a loupe to see this and look very closely. None of this can be seen in normal viewing and is not a concern. If you are seeing the pattern you described at normal viewing distances you may want to try and get an exchange from Epson under warranty if you can.
