Probably cost more than it was worth. Richard Benson is a celebrity within the fine-art-photo printing world. He did the film work on that book. For 1991, it probably was a milestone. I like to hold the book up at various angles to the light, and see how the various hits of ink took to the paper. Some seem even a bit heavy handed; almost solarized in their attempts to hold shadow detail.
