Obviously there would have to be a special driver for it (or an 8 channel RIP with individual curves in the RIP). I expect that will come with the next generation printers. The most probable solution would be an RGB driver that uses RGB profiles and does the old Epson type separation trick in the driver - but separating out the extra channels along with separating out the black. Not sure anyone in his right mind would want to try making all eight channels in Photoshop and printing straight through to each head. It *is* doable and I'd like to try it but I have been told before I am not necessarily in my right mind when it comes to these things. As for me building custom quadtone curves - I don't think I want to get into that business -- at least not until I retire from my day job. But anyone with a DTP-41 and Profiler Pro can do a good job of it just by following my instructions for RGB softproofing so there is a good small business for someone I guess. If anyone ever figures out how to put the softproof together with a profile that separates the channels right he'd have a real bonanza. Of course he'd have to put up with a mess of overly fussy artist types who are never satisfied - not my idea of a retirement job - I sooner want to put up with blue haired old ladies and their poodles for a living. :-) Dan Culbertson
