More BO Samples Available

2002-11-30 by Clayton Jones

Hello All,

I am adding a little variety to my offer to send sample Black-Only
prints. I have three prints to offer, each of which showcases a
particular aspect which may be of interest. Together they span the
complete range of tonal possibilities. If you are really interested
in BO printing I recommend getting all three.

1) Landscape - This is a snowscape with fresh snow in sunlight, with
dappled shadows across part of it and clouds in the distance. Was
taken in the San Jacinto mountains. There are some blacks, but only
in small areas. This mostly shows how high key areas are handled.
The subtle ripples in the snow are clearly visible. From a 6x7 Tri-X
neg.

2) Still Life - This exquisite print shows two pottery pieces and has
a large area of solid black background, a lot of silvery mid tones,
with just a tiny area at the high end. If anyone has any doubts about
this technique's ability to render good blacks, this print should
dispell them. This is a very intense photograph. From a 645 Tri-X
neg.

3) Portrait - Medium distance portrait of a boy in a pure white
acolyte robe, with dark background. This print has it all, from the
pure white robe with its crisp folds and creases (so sharp you can see
the texture in the cloth) to substantial areas of solid black. From a
35mm Tri-X neg. This print has that classic Tri-X look and clearly
shows why people love this film.
