Chris, There's a Coolscan 8000 list at Yahoo. I've had no problems with my 8000. So far I haven't seen any report like this from another user. You should load the scanning software first before inserting the carrier, the pressure you need to let the internal gear get a grip at the carrier is something you get a feeling for like changing gears in a car. There's no clutch however :-) Ernst
