Another way to do split-tone, when using a color inkset, is, in Photoshop, with your BW image in RGB mode: Choose SELECT>COLOR RANGE, and then choose MIDTONES. Go into one of the individual color channels and with LEVELS, slide the middle gamma triangle one way or the other. Then DESELECT that selection, and repeat the process, but this time choosing HIGHLIGHTS, and then swing those tones a different way, with a different color channel. With HIGHLIGHTS, you might even use CURVES instead, and pull down the highlight so that it contains some tone now. The variations are endless. But the splittone effect is easy with this method, (if you're using color inks, 2200 etc). -MT, http://marktucker.com/ --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@v...> wrote: > Norm, > > >Can someone please give me a definition/explanation of > >"split tone effects." > > Basically, a split-tone uses cool/neutral ink in one area and warm ink in > another area. > > I have a sample of a split tone at: > > http://home1.gte.net/res0a2zt/Whalers.html > > However, with my monitor the effects of the two tones is hard to see. > > > Paul > http://www.PaulRoark.com
