one set of inks and one kind of paper.   If my curves and
histogram are set right I expect 0 to print as perfectly
black, 255 to print as perfectly white, and consistent
relationship in between.    If my monitor is and printer
are profiled corectly I expect the print to look like what
I see on the screen.

If you are using a PC, then its not working quite like this unless you are
happy with the Epson 'out of the box' setup (printer management).  From PS
with a PC (LOL), you need to do a view/proof/and do a proof for a paper
profile.  Then in print preview, you need to do advanced printing/source is
same as proof--which you selected in your custom proof (the paper profile).
THEN--you can hit print, OKAY, and in the Epson dialog box, choose your
media, do custom/advanced and make sure that 'no color management' is
selected.  If you aren't doing this (with a PC), you are not getting all you
can get out of our color print--or at least not being able to work very well
from within Photoshop.  Its not just as easy as getting your image as you
want it with curves, levels, USM etc.---you want your print to approximate
what is on your monitor, I would think--otherwise, why bother?!?
