Re: [Digital BW] Re: Gray Balancer Conflicts

I just checked my 1280 installation paper--it says to install to a first tier USB port--if that makes any difference--I have no idea, hardware is not my forte (I can deal with any software LOL).

I have mine installed and just switch from 2200 to 1280 without any problems whatsoever. I just got my computer back from an upgrade and clean install of XP this past week. I installed the 2200 first--no problem. I installed the 1280--and XP did attempt to install a driver, but I closed it, used the downloaded XP/2000 driver from the Epson site and it installed perfectly. I use the 2 printers without any problem at all. Have you checked for the latest drivers? I also have 2 printers installed to my laptop which only has XP home edition on it--and can also switch from printer to printer--altho' I only have one hooked up at a time.

On the earlier UBS controllers there were issues with the specs on the
signal levels. A couple years ago I got a cheap scanner (Umax I think
but anyway it was not a Epson) for copying documents. It was actually
free when I bought my Dell. The scanner could not set on a USB hub. In
fact it was flakey directly on a USB port on my Dell. Even on the port
on the Dell it wouldn't work half the time. It turns out that after a
lot of talking with technical support at both Dell and Umax it was an
issue that the power levels were not sufficent from the scanner for it
to operate correctly. The solution was a powered USB hub to bost the
levels and it worked fine from then on.

I suspect this may be the issue with Epson printers and it really has
more to do with the chip set they are using to support the USB. In the
early day of USB there were so specification issues and some things
didn't always work right. Unless Epson implemented the USB protocol very
worng - I suspect they use someone elses chip set to connect to the USB
  - it is up to the computer to sort of who is who is on a USB port. In
fact many of the cards you buy have multiple ports on a single
controller. That's not all that different than a hub.

  >Truman, I had my 2200 on ME before XP. There have been many posts on other forums about the fact that Epsons often have trouble connected to hubs. I honestly never tried it--but just installed to a separate USB port and put the 1280 on the parallel. I have not had any problems installing them on XP though--both are on separate USB ports.
