RE: Re[2]: [Digital BW] Re: MIS new black/Paul

2003-03-10 by Paul Roark

Richard,

I posted 2 at least partial responses. They are below.

For the deeper black, it's a trade off. The Eboni is as lightfast as it
gets, but just slightly deeper than the FS/VM black. Jerry likes the Gen 4
(Media Street) black. So, that is another way to go. It does fade and
warm, however.

Good luck.

Paul

I think I'd clean the system. The bases/carriers of the two are very
different.

I'll run the question by MIS, and see if they've tried just switching
bottles.

Yes, MIS also seems to be saying that just putting the new Eboni in the
system is OK. Today, in response to my question about this, MIS sent the
following:

"Density is just slightly higher than the VM or FS black.
No compatibility issues between these and Eboni.
Cleaning and flushing not required. ... I will make
note of it on the [MIS] site."

So, I take it they think the new black ink can just be poured into the CFS
bottle.

HI Paul,

I posted the question below to the list but no one answered me. If
you have a moment your thoughts would be very appreciated.

Oh, and if there's any other black you'd recommend that I can use with
the FS-N inks and the Randall curves with my 1160 I'd sure like to
hear your suggestions. I want a deeper black than I'm getting with the
FS-N black on Photo Rag, EAM and Eclipse Satine.

Thanks

Richard

This new black sounds great. I currently run an 1160 with a CFS loaded
with MIS FS-N. I am almost out of black. Does anyone know if I can
just order a bottle of this new black and refill my old black bottle
as it runs low? Or just switch the tubes into the new bottle? Of
course I realize that it will take a little time for the old ink in
the tubes to run through but eventually I'd be at pure new black.
Would there be any issues in combining the two blacks this way?

Best regards,
