A little extra air in the system never hurts - in fact it often helps. Get
some latex gloves if you want to protect your fingers from ink, & slowly
work the tube off the cart. You may want to wrap a towell around your hand &
cart to catch potential ink spray when it disengages.

I'd re-attach the tube(s) empty if you do succeed in cleaning it. The little
bit of air in the tube won't hurt & you will have the added benefit of
seeing if the system is working by watching the ink advance through the
tube.

Personally, I don't think this effort is worth it, & would just replace the
cart, tube & ink (Eboni).

The Eboni is the best pigment black MIS ever sold. I use it with my FSN
Piezo & Perpetual Color setups.
