In quickly looking at the free viewers, it looks like they lack any retouching tools, such as a clone tool, which I think is one of the most useful. Epson is advertising the Perfection 1670 "photo restoration" scanner in the genealogy magazines. For a list of $129 it ships with ArcSoft's Photo Impression image editing software. Since the low end scanners (e.g., Epson's 48 bit 1260) sell for $49, are the features and software of the 1670 a good deal? Does this "photo restoration" feature (allegedly corrects colors of faded snapshots) really do anything more than an auto levels (on each color channel)? Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
