Hi Cara!

If you are going into this with any seriousness you need to learn 
what you are doing... at least to some level.  You also need a good 
tool to use.  Photoshop is of course prefered, but costs huge 
dollars.  GIMP is free (!) and nearly as powerful.

Here is a good article about converting to b&w using GIMP (it's a 
good primer for photoshop users too):

a google search will get you to a site to download GIMP from.  It is 
available for all platforms.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
