Why is the per print cost any higher with IP? As a matter of fact, if one compares the cost of a standard Epson 2200 color cartridge to the cost of a Septone cartridge, it's actually cheaper. Grant it, if you refill your own cartridges with 3rd party inks, or use a CIS, the cost will be less. But... If you include into your PPC (per print cost) things like head clogs and your time dealing with these issues, the PPC of IP starts looking good, again, yes?
