Carl, I work with large format--4x5 and 8x10--PK Sharpener (is the 16-bit version available now?) and PS 8 (err...CS), too. Generally, I find that I must flatten the file after the Capture Sharpen step or the files just get to large, especially 8x10. And, I'm talking B&W, only, here! I was working on an 8x10 neg last weekend that was scanned at only 800ppi--I didn't plan to go over 16x20 with this image--and I couldn't use PK Sharpener. Or, more accurately, I don't have the horsepower it would have taken to process this file. Even without PK sharpening my final file was almost a gig! I was working in high bit mode in CS. Just prior to printing I flattened the file and applied my PowerRetouche sharpening filter to it. Everything worked out fine, but I was holding my breath...
