From the MIS site:..The Ultra-Tones will mix fine with MIS Original Archival, Original Quadtone, VM and FS inks, but not with MIS Dyebase or Double Density Black. Always start with virgin empty CFS carts to be safe. The information on the Eboni ink can be found within the archives on this forum. It's the comments from Mr. Roark, (who has done a tremendous amount of testing and work in developing the formulas, that MIS uses to produce the UT inks) that I have heeded. He cautioned that there could be a problem going from one ink to the Eboni, and I found it to be true(IN MY CASE). > Have you found MIS to be overoptimistic in their claims? I take it you have learned from hard experience. Not in the least. As their statement, above states, to start with a virgin cart. I did, but I did not throughly clean out the print head. The little bit of ink in the print head, and on the pad, was enough to start some clogs. Since then, I have recleaned eveything and have not had nearly the problem. If I don't print for awhile, I MAY develop a clog , in the black(eboni) position, but I expected this as the eboni has a higher density of pigments than the other inks. Other factors can contribute to clogs, other than the ink used, such as the fact that I use 100% cotton papers, the temperature and humidity in the room I have my digital darkroom in. I have even read that altitude can possibly cause problems with pigmented inks due to their higher densities than dye inks. Am I happy with the UT inkset? You bet I am! MIS has put out an affordable pigmented inkset that, along with the work that Mr roark has done, I am able to use in a printer that was not designed for this type of ink, and get the results that I was looking for back in 2000, when I decided to look into inks, papers and a printer, that I could dedicate to B&W printing. > > If anyone else has information on this, I would appreciate hearing it. > > thanks, > Richard > > -- > photos: http://photos.smallfield.vze.com > homepage: http://smallfield.vze.com > favourite website: http://www.masters-of-photography.com/ > > "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid > people are conservatives." > --John Stuart Mill
