Digital BW, The Print

Apologies if this is a very stupid question.

I have not been able to work out how to change cartridges on my new (old) 1200 when they are not empty: the user guide says that if the light is not showing a cartridge to be empty, pushing the button activates the cleaning cycle instead.

Sorry if I keep asking dumb questions - I'm unwell and learning all this is a bit of a struggle.
