Thanks, Clayton and Bob, for the suggestions. I finally got the cartridge to work and am now having perfect nozzle checks. What I did was inject about 6 mil of ink into the cartridge and then put it back in the printer. Initially this had the effect of giving a good purge readout along with some drips. I ran one purge and let the printer sit idle overnight. The next morning I ran a nozzle check -- close to perfect -- and one cleaning cycle, and now everything is as it should be.
