Eboni Clog

Eboni Clog

2003-12-14 by Chris Hargens

I just installed the UT inkset in my new 1280. I'm filling virgin
carts. All the inks are coming out reasonably well except for the
Eboni. Little or no Eboni is not coming out. I've tried some purges
with alternating cleanings -- no help. When I put in the Epson black
I get a perfect nozzle check right away. Any suggestions on how to
proceed. Perhaps a cleaning cartridge? Or is my 1280 one of those
that can't seem to handle the Eboni?

Chris: since you don't have a problem with the Epson cart, obviously
your problem is not a nozzle clog. It has to be in the cart itself
since you change that one thing and the problem goes away.
Unfortunately, I know nothing about refilling as I use a CFS. Have you
just tried filling another cart and see how that does?

I've never heard of a 1280 that couldn't handle Eboni.

Hello Chris,

It's possible you have a defective cartridge. I had one once.

Clayton

Thanks, Clayton and Bob, for the suggestions. I finally got the
cartridge to work and am now having perfect nozzle checks. What I did
was inject about 6 mil of ink into the cartridge and then put it back
in the printer. Initially this had the effect of giving a good purge
readout along with some drips. I ran one purge and let the printer
sit idle overnight. The next morning I ran a nozzle check -- close to
perfect -- and one cleaning cycle, and now everything is as it should
be.
