Digital BW, The Print

This is probably wishful thinking on my part but here goes.

I have an old Epson Perfection 1200 flatbed scanner which has 
Silverfast Ai 6 scanning software installed. Included in the software 
is a Densitometer. The max sample size is 3x3 pixels.

I was wondering if this could be used to read a stepwedge in the 
Linearization process when calibrating QuadTone RIP curves instead of 
an actual hardware Densitometer or the Eye-One.
