Stuart,

That's what was tested, below.

That is so subjective I'm reluctant to say anything. In general, I think
dyes do have an advantage in making high-gloss prints. Pigments have the
clear advantage with respect to flexibility of paper type, including most
specifically archival cotton papers.

The HP has more metamerism, but I don't find it objectionable.

The HP output is quite cool, colder than the EZ neutral on most papers. (I
don't know if there are other hues of HP dyes available.) The EZ system
allows flexibility here by putting in different combinations of neutral and
warm inks, and on one of the really cold matte papers it would probably be
cooler than the HP.

Under a loupe the HP output has smaller dots than the C84, but the HP
samples I have also show very slight microbanding. I suspect the amount of
microbanding is more a question of the particular printer than the systems
overall. Both should look excellent in normal viewing.

My goal with the C82 & C82 was to get a B&W printing system out there that
would allow people (especially my wife's genealogy society colleagues) to
easily and cheaply make archival copies of their old family photos and
snapshots of their kids that would have a very high probability of not
fading or otherwise deteriorating in many generations. I think for an
affordable and easy "carbon on cotton" archival printer, it is unmatched.
