RE: [Digital BW] Re:Ultratone-Longevity Tests-What ever happened to Hydrocote?

John,

I stopped pursuing the Hydrocote-Mayer rod coating. There were several
reasons for this. I could not, with the setup I had, scale up to 16 x 20
with consistent results. About 8x10 was it for me.

For display prints that I was going to sell or display in a gallery-type
setting, glazing would be necessary anyway, so I would not use the
Hydrocote. For casual snaps that I wanted to just have displayed with no
glass, a simple spray (PremierArt) on glossy (Epson Glossy Photo, Ilford
Smooth Pearl, or Epson Premium Semigloss) is easier and gives me a print
that is protected well enough to clean with a damp cloth.

So, bottom line, I gave up on Hydrocote, even though I think such a coating
if done well might give the best looking final print in an un-glazed
display. I don't think the Mayer rod is the way to do that for large
display, however.

Reading Livick.com longevity pages reminded me of Paul's Hydrocote coating
tests a
couple of years ago. What was the final verdict for Hydrocote?
