I to am doing the same search as you and even though MIS is very good, I believe there are other companies that produce even better products. One of them is the Sundance system with the Septone dottless RIP software.
Just my opinion,

  Cort,

  We will be setting up a dedicated black & white print station, using
  quadtone inks.  We are
  currently in the process of researching the best method and work flow
  for obtaining the
  highest quality black & white prints. We are committed to producing
  the best prints
  possible. We are trying to decide between the Epson 4000 or
  something like the 7000/
  7600. We are also looking into the best RIP software, etc. (we are
  using Macs with OS
  10.3).

  If anyone has any suggestions for the best system for a Mac we would
  love to hear them.

  Regards,
  Carl Schneider
