Re: [Digital BW] QTR for Windows - Brilliant - Thanks Roy

After having used UT7 inkset for a long while I tried some prints with
QTR and the the MIS Archival 7600 inkset in my 2100. This inkset is
MIS's version of the Ultrachrome inkset, so results will be very similar.

Overall I would say both are very good, but that prints from the UT7
inkset has smoother midtones and especially highlights due to the
additional lighter black inks. Even with the paper at arms lenght away
from your face you can see a little more texture in the Ultrachrome prints.

For ultimate quality I think you might prefer the UT7 inkset. On the
other hand, using QTR will still get you 96% of the way there if you do
both color and BW printing and want to use one inkset. Not a bad
compromise at all.

Also, using QTR with the UT7 inkset will allow you even finer control
than the curves on just how warm/cool you want the prints to appear and
just which inks you want to use. You could do some of the same fine
tuning with the slider controls in the driver, but unless I'm mistaken
that would be at the expense of adding some additional toner to the
print which could shorten its lifetime.

Of course, Paul has done a remarkable job with the Epson driver, so you
might not find using anything else neccessary, but at least the option
is there if you need it.
