Printing B&W is only expensive if you're seeking absolute perfection. However, you can get good results with what you've got. Printing in black only mode works fine, with the limitation that the result has a slight warm cast and is a bit grainier than using color inks. Printing B&W in color mode works reasonably well if you use the latest profiles downloadable from Epson's web site, although the grayscale isn't absolutely neutral at all levels, and does exhibit a little metamerism under different lighting. There is a lot of good info in the archives of this group, although there's a lot of noise to wade through as well. Probably the most important thing to investigate initially is the many ways of converting color to B&W. How you do that will have more effect on your final output than the techniques or tools you use to do the actual printing. -- Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Paul mailto:pderocco@...
