I now make sure they are not pushed all the way in. They are in the shape of a little cork. So, I make sure the wide end is enough outside the cart that I can pull it out with a finger nail. Today I had one that I'd pushed in too far, but I was able to extract it with the point of a razor knife blade. >By the way, when I first filled mine I didn't do that primer >draw from the bottom, and the results were nerve-racking. >Took *forever* to get a good nozzle check, but now they are >perfect every time. I assume I don't need to do that on >subsequent fills, correct? No, once it starts, it's good. But, as you've also discovered, it's important to prime the carts by pulling a bit of ink out. I use an MIS bottom fill adapter on a syringe. I've modified the bottom fill adapter by shortening the end to 7 mm. (I first did this to be able to pull ink from 7600 carts, but it seems to work for these poppet valves also.) The idea was to get the snout long enough to open the valve, but short enough that the wider part of the bottom fill adapter could be pushed tight against the bottom of the valve to seal the connection. I turn the cart upside down when I do this so that the bubble that is there will be pulled out first. As soon as I get ink I stop. I'm thinking it might also make sense to tip the cart just enough so that the ink in the reservoir is up against the opening between the 2 chambers. This would stop air from being pulled in through that opening. Anyway, I refilled 3 carts today and had perfect nozzle checks with each one immediately without doing any more than squirting about 10 cc of ink into the reservoir and re-setting the chip.
