Epson Semimatte paper [was Costco paper... be careful!]

And it probably will continue for a long time.

Speaking of which, I've been printing different papers with the little C86,
and one thing that struck me was that it was actually up to printing an
essentially perfect "glossy" print -- something I've really not felt the
other printers I have are up to. The 2200 at 2880, with HS un-checked is
close. The 4000 samples I've seen are also very good, although, oddly, do
not have a great dmax.

With the C86, the weakness is that the pizza wheel marks show in solid black
areas with Premium Glossy paper. But, they don't show with the Premium
Semimatte.

With all Epson Premium papers the Epson UltraChrome Photo K gives a much
better dmax than MIS's PK, at least with the C86.

So, the combination that looks the best to me with the C86 is UC PK with MIS
EZ-N on Premium Semimatte. Under glass, as it would be as a display print,
I think it looks so much better than the matte papers that I suspect it will
be a top paper for this use. And it has a Wilhelm ">200 year" paper life
rating, which is the same rating Wilhelm gives cotton papers. In fade tests
the Semigloss was about as good as the UltraSmooth. Neither have OBAs.

In short, the combination of Premium Semimatte, UC PK, MIS EZ-N, & C86 makes
arguably the best looking prints I've seen.

I have no idea, Paul, I was obviously thinking of the Japanese
Epson papers in general. Mitsubishi makes a wide range of papers for
a lot of outlets, and many of them are first rate. I wouldn't mind
testing a few, I'm not entirely happy with EEM for one. It does
print well, but why waste ink and effort on a paper that can yellow
in as little as a few months under the right (wrong?) conditions? I
guess the great paper chase goes on....
