I loaded up a sheet of Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl today to see what I've been missing as I've only printed on EEM so far. At first glance the Ilford looks better: deeper blacks, mostly. I boosted the contrast of the EEM print to try to match but the Dmax still does not compare to the glossy finish of the Ilford paper. But on close examination of the Ilford under light there are these weird cellular patterns in discrete portions of the image. Does anyone know where these weird patterns are coming from? It seems to be localized to the denser areas. I'm using the appropriate "Neutral" curves from Paul's website. I have scanned portions of the image on both EEM and on Ilford to compare.
